Mouse movement, click and wheel test

Use the full mouse lab to confirm pointer motion, left/middle/right clicks and wheel input while watching browser-visible movement activity. It is a broad first check before using the focused polling/click diagnostic.

What to check

  • Move the mouse continuously and confirm pointer coordinates change smoothly.
  • Click each physical button several times and compare the counters.
  • Scroll both directions and confirm wheel steps change.
  • Reset and repeat if one switch appears to miss or duplicate clicks.
  • Use the focused polling/click page for cleaner movement-event comparisons.

Common symptoms

A click counter that rises twice for one physical press can be consistent with switch chatter, but repeat the test before drawing a conclusion. A button that never appears can also be intercepted by software, remapping or browser behavior.

Movement-event rate is browser-visible activity, not a certified raw USB report-rate measurement.

Accuracy tips

  1. Compare the same browser and pointer motion when changing settings.
  2. Keep the cursor moving during rate comparisons.
  3. Try another USB port or wired mode if wireless behavior is unstable.
  4. Close heavy background tasks before comparing two samples.
For high polling-rate mice, browser event coalescing can make the visible rate lower than the device's configured hardware rate.

Mouse test FAQ

Can this prove a double-click fault?

It can reveal repeated browser click events, but switch debounce is a lower-level behavior. Repeat the symptom and compare another computer where possible.

Why is the event rate inconsistent?

Movement speed, browser scheduling, display refresh, operating-system input handling and background load can all influence browser events.

Does the test change DPI?

No. It observes browser input only and does not change mouse firmware or software settings.
