How to use the calibration test
- Place the controller on a stable surface and release both sticks.
- Observe the raw centre behavior before applying any offset.
- Press Set current position as zero once the sticks are untouched.
- Move both sticks through their full circular travel to inspect corrected centering and raw axis endpoints.
- Reset the zero offset to compare the original raw behavior again.
What temporary zeroing tells you
If a small constant centre offset disappears after temporary zeroing and full travel remains normal, software deadzone or calibration may be able to mask the symptom.
If the centre keeps wandering, the offset changes over time, or the stick cannot reach a healthy range, the issue may be more than a simple static calibration offset.

Permanent calibration—when supported—must be done through the controller manufacturer, console settings, operating-system tools, firmware utilities or a game's own calibration/deadzone settings.
When calibration is not enough
- Neutral position moves around instead of staying near one offset.
- Corrected input still moves while the stick is untouched.
- One direction cannot approach the expected full range.
- Movement jumps or has dead spots during slow travel.
- The problem rapidly returns after real calibration.

No. The offset resets when you reload or leave the page.
Should I calibrate away stick drift?
A small stable centre offset can sometimes be compensated by a deadzone or supported calibration process. Progressive or variable drift is more likely to require cleaning, repair or replacement.
Why do my axes not reach exactly -1.000 and +1.000?
Small differences can be normal. Focus on repeatability, symmetry and whether games can reach the intended full input rather than one exact endpoint.
