DEAD PIXEL & DISPLAY QUALITY TEST
Cycle through solid colors, grayscale, a smooth gradient and a high-frequency sharpness pattern. Fullscreen inspection makes it easier to spot stuck pixels, uniformity problems, banding and scaling or focus issues.
How to check for dead or stuck pixels
- Clean the screen gently so dust is not mistaken for a pixel defect.
- Enter fullscreen mode and inspect black, white, red, green and blue patterns one by one.
- Look closely across the entire panel, especially near edges and corners.
- A pixel that remains dark on every bright color may be dead; a pixel that stays one color can be stuck.
- Repeat at normal viewing distance before deciding whether the defect is visible in real use.
What the solid colors reveal
Solid RGB and neutral patterns make individual pixel defects easier to see because a single abnormal subpixel contrasts against a uniform field.
They can also reveal obvious panel uniformity differences, backlight bleed on dark scenes or color tint changes, though those observations are affected by room lighting and viewing angle.
Gradient and banding test
The gradient pattern should transition smoothly. Visible steps can come from display bit depth, GPU output settings, compression, browser rendering, panel processing or calibration.
A browser gradient is useful for visual screening but is not a calibrated laboratory bit-depth test. Color management and GPU output settings remain part of the signal chain.
Sharpness and scaling pattern
The checker pattern uses high-frequency black/white detail. At native resolution and correct scaling it should appear crisp and regular. Blur, uneven moiré or softened edges can indicate scaling, overscan, non-native resolution, display processing or simply the panel's pixel structure.
Compare the result with your operating system's native-resolution setting before changing monitor sharpness controls.

Can a webpage repair a stuck pixel?
No guaranteed repair is possible here. Rapid color cycling is sometimes suggested online, but it can also be uncomfortable to view and is not a reliable fix. GearCheck Lab focuses on safe inspection rather than flashing patterns.
Why does black look uneven?
LCD backlight bleed, IPS glow, local-dimming behavior, viewing angle and room reflections can all affect perceived black uniformity. OLED panels have different characteristics.
Should I use fullscreen?
Yes. Fullscreen removes most interface distractions and makes it easier to scan the complete panel.
