Clear text should be comfortable to read at your normal viewing distance. Compare edges, spacing and punctuation without leaning closer between samples.

How to use this tool

  1. Start with your normal browser zoom and a comfortable viewing distance.
  2. Choose a font and text size, then inspect letters, numbers and punctuation.
  3. Compare light, dark and lower-contrast samples without changing several settings at once.
  4. Use fullscreen if helpful and record the smallest comfortable settings for your own comparison.

Read the result correctly

The size control uses CSS pixels, not a physical millimetre measurement. The sample includes characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0 so you can compare edge clarity and character separation. Font rendering, weight, spacing and contrast can change readability even when monitor resolution is unchanged. This is a user-controlled visual comparison rather than an automatic pass/fail result or a score for your eyesight.

Limits and troubleshooting

Browser zoom, device pixel ratio, operating-system scaling, font smoothing and panel characteristics all influence the result. This page does not calibrate monitor sharpness, measure subpixel geometry or diagnose vision. A screenshot reproduces software-rendered text but cannot capture all physical display artifacts. Compare the same sample on another display with matching settings. Fullscreen is optional, and normal browser controls can exit it.

Frequently asked question

Are these physical pixel sizes?

No. The controls use CSS pixels. Browser zoom, device pixel ratio and operating-system scaling affect how large they appear on the physical display.
