How to use this tool

  1. Start microphone access and play one sustained note.
  2. Keep other instruments and background speech quiet.
  3. Read frequency, note and cents only when a stable periodic signal is detected.
  4. Adjust the A4 reference if needed and stop microphone access when finished.

Read the result correctly

The tuner estimates a repeating period in the captured waveform. A positive cents value means sharper than the nearest note under the chosen A4 reference; a negative value means flatter. The reference defaults to A4 at 440 Hz and can be adjusted from 430 to 450 Hz. Allow a note to settle before comparing it. A low-confidence or quiet sample is shown as no reliable pitch rather than inventing a note. Compare one instrument at a time at a consistent microphone distance.

Limits and troubleshooting

Overtones, multiple notes, percussion, vibrato, room reflections and browser processing can cause octave errors or unstable readings. The supported estimation range is approximately 55–1000 Hz. This is a musical aid, not a calibrated frequency instrument. Microphone permission is user-started; Stop, page hiding and leaving release tracks. No sound is recorded, uploaded or played through the speakers.

Privacy and control

Device previews, recordings, selected files and report notes stay in your browser. Downloaded files remain on your device. Network tests send generated probes to GearCheck Lab. DNS lookup sends your requested public domain name and type to our server and the Cloudflare public resolver only after you start a query. Local recordings, drawings, files, device names and battery logs are not uploaded. Ordinary page requests and usage measurement are described in our privacy policy.
