USB & HID Device Inspector

View basic descriptors for a device you choose in a supported browser’s permission picker. The inspector reads the selected object’s product information without opening the device or sending data to it.

USB & HID Device Inspector workbench

Free / No account
READY — choose an action below
No device selected.

Selection opens your browser permission picker. No device is opened and no commands are sent.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose Select HID device or Select USB device if that API is supported.
  2. Use the browser picker to choose a device you want to inspect.
  3. Review the product, vendor and product IDs and exposed descriptor counts.
  4. Clear the display when done; manage any granted access using the browser’s site-permission controls.

Read the result correctly

Vendor and product IDs are displayed as hexadecimal identifiers. HID top-level collections and USB configuration counts describe metadata exposed by the selected API object. They are not a capability benchmark or a complete health report. A selected product may have multiple interfaces, and the browser can withhold protected devices. Serial numbers are intentionally not displayed or collected by this inspector.

Limits and troubleshooting

WebUSB and WebHID support varies by browser, security context and administrative policy. Common keyboards and security-sensitive interfaces can be excluded from the picker. A missing device is not proof that it is disconnected or faulty. This tool does not open a device, claim an interface, flash firmware or send output reports. Clearing the page’s display does not revoke a browser permission that you previously granted.

Frequently asked question

Does selecting a device change its firmware or settings?

No. This inspector reads the descriptor object returned by the permission picker and does not open the device or send commands.

Privacy and control

Diagnostic data is processed locally in this tab and is not intentionally sent to analytics. Network tools send only their test probes and temporary payloads to GearCheck Lab’s speed-test server. Media and device access starts only after your explicit action and any required browser permission. Downloaded results stay on your device.

Read the privacy policy and testing methodology. If something fails, report the tool URL and visible message.
