Capture a still image from your browser’s webcam stream to inspect focus and lighting. Camera access begins only after you choose Start camera and grant permission; photos are created locally.
Start the camera and choose whether to allow access in the browser prompt.
Wait for a live frame and place a detailed object or printed text in view.
Capture a photo and inspect the image at its displayed dimensions.
Download a copy if useful, then stop the camera and delete the local photo when finished.
Read the result correctly
The displayed dimensions are the frame dimensions supplied to this browser stream, not a promise of the sensor’s maximum resolution. A PNG captures the current decoded frame without deliberately adding JPEG compression. Compare lighting, subject distance and the same camera settings between runs. Inspect fine edges and text visually rather than treating brightness or resolution alone as an automatic quality score.
Limits and troubleshooting
Camera focus, exposure, compression and driver processing vary by device and browser. This page does not read all manufacturer settings, certify optical resolution or repair a blurry lens. Permission may be denied or another app may hold the camera. Stop releases the media tracks; hiding the tab also stops access. A captured local image can remain in the tab until deleted or reloaded, and a downloaded copy remains on your device.
Frequently asked question
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The capture is drawn into a local canvas and converted to a local PNG. Download saves your copy; Delete removes the tab’s displayed image.
Privacy and control
Diagnostic data is processed locally in this tab and is not intentionally sent to analytics. Network tools send only their test probes and temporary payloads to GearCheck Lab’s speed-test server. Media and device access starts only after your explicit action and any required browser permission. Downloaded results stay on your device.
