Record a short clap sample using both camera and microphone, then compare hand contact with the sound in local playback. Preview and recording are separate actions, and the clip is not uploaded.
Start camera and microphone preview and decide whether to grant browser permission.
Choose Record 10-second clip, face the camera and clap once clearly in view.
Wait for the automatic stop or choose Stop earlier.
Use playback and the small seek buttons to inspect the sequence; download or delete the clip when done.
Read the result correctly
The recorded sample lets you inspect whether visible hand contact and the clap sound appear aligned in this browser’s playback path. Seek buttons move the playback position by about 0.05 seconds; they are not certified individual-frame stepping. The tool does not invent an automatic millisecond offset from a subjective visual comparison. A repeatable obvious offset is a reason to compare settings or another browser, not proof that a particular component is defective.
Limits and troubleshooting
Capture buffering, camera processing, audio drivers, codec encoding and playback all affect the sample. Sound also takes time to travel from the clap to the microphone, so distance matters. A browser must support media recording and a usable audio/video format. Changing tabs discards an unfinished recording and stops device tracks. Completed clips remain local until deleted or reloaded; downloaded files remain on your device.
Frequently asked question
Does this calculate an exact sync offset?
No. It provides a controlled local recording for visual and listening comparison. The capture and playback path does not establish a calibrated physical offset.
Privacy and control
Diagnostic data is processed locally in this tab and is not intentionally sent to analytics. Network tools send only their test probes and temporary payloads to GearCheck Lab’s speed-test server. Media and device access starts only after your explicit action and any required browser permission. Downloaded results stay on your device.
